Examinations are very important and critical to all patient care and diagnosis. Examinations include a wealth of information regarding a patient’s general health and specifically, their oral health.
Basically, there are two types of examinations; comprehensive (complete) and limited (problem focused only).
The comprehensive or complete examination notes all details related to a persons oral health. A wide range of information is usually gathered for a comprehensive examination. All details are noted and documented and shared with the patient regarding their oral condition. A treatment plan would then be developed outlining the course of treatment and procedures necessary for a restored and healthy mouth. Dr. Miller personally shares and discusses treatment options, in detail. His desire is to allow his patients to be informed and select their best treatment option.
A limited or problem focused examination would be limited to usually a specific problem or concern. This type of examination usually requires less time due to the fact that the entire mouth would not be examined at this time. Toothaches, broken fillings and gum issues would be examples of instances where limited examinations would be of value. Our office offers both comprehensive and limited examinations.
Our office has a State-of-the-Art intraoral camera that we use many times with our treatment plan discussions. The photographs are shown with a 17 inch high definition laptop. Dr. Miller also has a 35mm digital camera he uses for extraoral and full facial photographs. These photographs are many times used in formal treatment plan presentations for larger cosmetic procedures or “full-mouth”, comprehensive dental procedures.
